Southern Pacific Intermodal service was named the "Golden Pig Service" back during the 1970s/80s. Pig, in this case, came from the term "piggy-back" which meant a trailer riding on a flatcar (TOFC). "Golden" described the level or service. (Credit - Paraphased from Ted Curphey, on railroadforums.com)
